About the Event
Fashion through time.
Three centuries of fashions!
As a historian with a most vivid interest in Fashion and all it reveals, I would be delighted to take us through the meanders of styles, explain details, and shade light on secret codes, rules, and aspirations.
The newly displayed permanent collection of the superb Palais Galliera, elected temple of fashion’s chronological overview, brings together a multitude of items from men’s, women’s, and children’s wardrobes showing the evolution of looks, materials, principles, and attributes from the 18th century to today. What a treat it is to discover all these items so carefully put on display because of their preciousness and fragility, exceptionally brought out of their cases and exposed in turns for a brief period of time to light and our admiring eye before regaining their protected sleep-in secure air-locked storage rooms, labeled hat boxes and endless rows of shoe cabinets.
Gowns, gloves, fans, hats, shoes, make-up, jewelry - outfits and accessories of all sorts are not sheer female paraphernalia. They are objects of inspiration and means of expressing a condition, intention, limitations, beliefs, personal gusto, and charisma. And not to forget: they are always attributes of war – to conquer the opposite sex, but also to state one’s own identity!
The visit will start at 12 o'clock at Palais Galliera. We will leave at 10h30 from Gare Maisons Laffitte.
