About the Event
Tucked-away in a discreet Police station, over five hundred square meters retrace the history of all social issues we are still trying our best to find solutions to. From some rather over-protective medieval knights, to the first well-organized companies of citizens brave enough to clear out the noxious “cours de miracles”; from the terrifying militias of the Revolution and the Napoleonic hordes of neighbourhood spies to the daily routine of the neighbourhood policeman, walking the beat in all weathers and exposed to all kinds of threats; right through to the overwhelmed traffic warden blowing his whistle in a city renowned for its traffic chaos, we simple citizens, in our hour of need, have always turned for protection or assistance to the policeman, the cop, the agent, the gendarme or the pompier.
These amazing souvenirs from the past - manuscripts, documents, unique objects, relics, posters - create a panorama of one of the most complex, controversial and irreplaceable bodies of our society. Inquisitioners and executioners, serial killers and political assassins, ideologue terrorists, simple kidnapers and beggars, filles de joie and petit street criminals all parade through the ages in our beloved Paris from the past centuries to present days.
This is French History not of the Kings and Queens, the glorious battles or lovely palaces, but of the horrible crimes and the brutes who committed them, of the squalor and the prostitution, the thieves and the filth - all seen from the point of view of those who have to deal with it on a daily basis, "those who keep watch so the others may sleep”.
